Probing sub-eV Dark Matter decays with PTOLEMY

چکیده
Abstract When the Dark Matter mass is below eV-scale, its cosmological occupation number exceeds ones of photons from cosmic microwave background as well relic neutrinos. If such decays to pairs neutrinos, it implies that experiments seek detection neutrino may be sensitive this additional form “dark radiation”. Here we study prospects for taking into account various options forecasted performance future PTOLEMY experiment. From a detailed profile likelihood analysis find with lifetime large 10 4 Gyr or sub-% fraction decaying today can discovered. The are facilitated by distinct spectral event shape introduced galactic and dark radiation fluxes. Probing dark matter caustics with weak lensing
Caustics are high-density structures that form frequently in collisionless media. Under self-gravity, cold dark matter flows focus onto caustics which are yet to be resolved in numerical simulations and or observed in the real world. If detected, caustics would provide a strong evidence for dark matter and would rule out alternative models such as those with modified dynamics. Here, we demonstr...
متن کاملProbing Dark Matter Haloes with Satellite Kinematics
Using detailed mock galaxy redshift surveys we investigate to what extent the kinematics of large samples of satellite galaxies extracted from flux-limited surveys can be used to constrain halo masses. Unlike previous studies, which focussed only on satellites around relatively isolated host galaxies, we try to recover the average velocity dispersion of satellite galaxies in all haloes, as a fu...
متن کاملProbing Dark Matter Substructure with Pulsar Timing
We demonstrate that pulsar timing measurements may be able to detect the presence of dark matter substructure within our own galaxy. As dark matter substructure transits near the line-of-sight between a pulsar and an observer, the change in the gravitational field will result in a delay of the light-travel-time of photons. We calculate the effect of this delay due to transiting dark matter subs...
متن کاملProbing dark matter with X–ray binaries
Low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), which occur in old stellar populations, have velocities exceeding those of their parent distribution by at least 20 km s. This makes them ideal probes for dark matter, in particular in dwarf spheroidals (dSph), where the LMXBs should penetrate well outside the visible galaxy. We argue that the most likely explanation of the observation of LMXBs in the Sculptor d...
متن کاملProbing the Dark Sector with Dark Matter Bound States.
A model of the dark sector where O(few GeV) mass dark matter particles χ couple to a lighter dark force mediator V, m_{V}≪m_{χ}, is motivated by the recently discovered mismatch between simulated and observed shapes of galactic halos. Such models, in general, provide a challenge for direct detection efforts and collider searches. We show that for a large range of coupling constants and masses,...
